A wise father once said, “If you go down the alley and a dog bites you, it’s the dog’s fault. But if you go down that same alley again and the dog bites you, it’s your fault.” That was his way of saying that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. He was born in the early 1900’s and he communicated mainly through stories. They didn’t have as many options then as we do now.
Nowadays we communicate over the internet, by text, through Facebook, Twitter, and other social media, sign language, landline, but mostly mobile device, you name it! It seems that we have more methods for communicating yet there’s less understanding. Hmmm
Even so, there’s nothing like sitting down and having a conversation. Yes, we said it, the “C” word, conversation, is the thing that we don’t do as well or as much anymore. So The Institute decided to change that. There are many things to talk about. Some are so controversial that just the thought of them is tiring. But that doesn’t mean we can’t talk. There’s so much we can agree upon, why not start there?
We think that all can agree that every person should have a place to stay. We know some people live in big expensive houses and others not so much. But shouldn’t everyone have a someplace to live? We don’t think that it’s asking much to want to live inside instead of outside. No offense to those who love camping.
What would happen if we talked about homelessness and all the things that the homeless face? It could be uncomfortable, but no more uncomfortable than living in a box or under a bridge, or on a park bench. This is especially true if you’re a child. So, we decided to talk about homelessness with a goal in mind. Sure, we want to increase awareness but we want to talk about how we can help and then take action. When we talk, we want to have a conversation not a monologue. That means we want you to talk as well. Any good conversation is two-way.
So, if you’d like to be a part of the discussion, give us a call. Our e*nounce speakers would love to talk with you.
